New head of the Balingen tax office

Susanne Karrais is the new head of the Balingen tax office. She succeeds Albin Geiger, who retired at the end of May.

Susanne Karrais comes from Horb and studied law in Bremen and Heidelberg. The Balingen tax office was her first professional station. She then moved to the Rottweil tax office, where she was most recently deputy director. Her predecessor Albin Geiger had headed the tax office for seven years.

State Secretary of Finance Gisela Splett: "Susanne Karrais is rooted in the region and already knows the Balingen tax office very well. The catchment area is large and some well-known companies are based in the region. Ms Karrais has all the necessary skills for this exciting task."

Balingen tax office
The Balingen tax office currently employs 283 people. The district covers the Zollernalbkreis administrative district with the towns of Albstadt, Balingen, Burladingen, Haigerloch, Hechingen, Meßstetten, Rosenfeld and Schömberg. The district has a population of just under 200,000. The Zollernalb district is characterized by a broadly diversified medium-sized economy. The total tax revenue of the Balingen tax office amounted to around 1.28 billion euros in 2024.

The tax office is very active in recruiting young talent and is involved in the "Steuern macht Schule" project, among others. Employees of the tax office visit school classes and give them an insight into their work and provide general information on the subject of taxes.
